3D Visions

Think of your very own personal 3D printer capable of making objects up to the size of a loaf of bread. It is available ‘Cube 3D printer’ is now for sale.

The models are made by a spindle of plastic thread that is unravelled then it is melted and fed through a ‘print’ that creates your object layer by layer.

Objects are created on a computer using free online software, for example Google sketchpad. Once you have done that you transfer the replicator (a machine capable of creating and recycling objects) on a SD memory card.

3D printing is not new; it has been used for decades to create prototypes.

The Cube 3D printer is being sold at £1,130 for the basic version, which can only make single colour objects but an extra £161.74 gets a 2 colour version.

Expensive though they are, these printers will get cheaper, just like the calculator, which was hundreds of pounds at first, but now they are available for under a pound.

The future just got very interesting!
